Advocates for Accessible Activities
In 2002 my husband and I founded Taylor's Gift,
because of our experiences with our daughter, Taylor.
She suffers from Cerebral Palsy and has physical, but
not mental impairments.
The circles not only teach an age-old craft, but also promote an opportunity to make
friends with a diversity of children in a quiet, relaxed atmosphere.
The circles invariably create an opportunity for quiet conversation. There is no
attendance requirement. Each participant is encouraged to learn at an individual pace.
The circle promotes patience, kindness and respect for others - always.
During Taylor's first years in school she had difficulty developing lasting friendships
because of her inability to be as physically active as her peers.
In a world in which most children run from soccer games to dance lessons, disabled
children find socializing difficult.
To create a place and activity that better fosters creative socialization for all children, including those with special needs, my
family started Knit Fit. Knit Fit is a business, which creates no cost knitting circles for children and their parents, where knitting
supplies are available for purchase at the circle. However, it is not a requirement that you purchase supplies from us to
participate. Any child that has economic challenges will be provided with supplies.
All of us at Knit Fit appreciate your willingness to assist our effort to create safe social playgrounds for all of our children.

ONE OF OUR 4H LEADERS IS A FARMER AND SHE LET
ALL OF MY CHILDREN PARTICIPATE AT HER BOOTH EVERY
WEEK. THE KIDS LEARNED TO SELL,REMEMBER
PEOPLES NAMES, GIVE SERVICE WITH A SMILE, AND
TO WORK QUICKLY AND EFFICIENTLY. TOGETHER WE
HAVE STARTED GREEN GIVING, TO BRING MORE
AWARENESS ABOUT SUPPORTING COMMUNITY
CONNECTION. WE ARE ENCOURAGING EVERYONE WHO
CAN, TO GET OUT TO A LOCAL MARKET AND TALK WITH
FARMERS, SEE OTHERS THAT YOU KNOW, AND MAKE
NEW FRIENDS. WE ARE SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE. IT
IS A GREAT SOCIAL PLAYGROUND.
